New webcomic site is live!

It took a lot of doing, but my new graphic novel project Tamuran is now officially live and updating! The 12-page prologue is posted so far, with chapter 1 to start updating biweekly on Tuesday. It’s a high fantasy story about a young royal heir whose country has been overthrown by dark sorcerers harboring a 900-year-old grudge. To save his people he must survive traveling through the wilds of his dying kingdom, accompanied by a few unlikely protectors – who include a feral elf whose entire clan has disappeared without a trace, a girl from an ‘ascended’ guardian race who has rarely stepped outside the walls of the palace, and a huge, furry, man-eating monster who serves as the diplomat of the group… If any of that sounds interesting, please check out the comic!

Shades of Veil is still on the back burner until Tamuran gets a little more underway, but it will definitely continue! Having a different, more print-oriented project to work on has actually piqued my enthusiasm for drawing this comic, too. Many many thanks to the wonderfully patient people who are still coming to this site! ^_^

Back from Nekocon!

I was at Nekocon this weekend with my friend Chezhnian, hanging out with Robyn and sadboyinsnow from Technoangel Studios and Megami Jadeheart, and promoting Shades of Veil and the new project Chezhnian and I are working on. If you’re one of the people who stopped by our table, hello, welcome, and thank you for checking out our site!

It may look like things have been a bit dead around here, but Shades of Veil updates will be starting up again soon. Chris and I are discussing a format change that should improve the storytelling and cut down on update delays, starting with Chapter 5.

In the meantime, I am working with my friend Chezhnian to adapt the story we’ve been writing/RPing for the past year into a graphic novel. The project is called “Tamuran,” and its website will be up as soon as we’ve got some technical issues worked out. Until then, you can find more about it in my deviantArt gallery.

I’m sorry for the lack of updates lately. Things have been busy and largely unpredictable around here (plus I’ve been away from home for each of the last three weekends, which makes it hard to watercolor). I’ve also been trying to work on another large-scale project with a non-negotiable deadline – more on that later, but for now here’s a small teaser.

Shades of Veil page 43 is midway through being painted. In the meantime, here’s the first of my submissions for Sen‘s Webcomics Tarot Project – the Two of Swords, featuring a character who’ll show up in Chapter 5.

Chapter 4 page 42 is up. Tried going more watercolor and less watercolor pencil in terms of painting technique with this one… I like the smoother texture, but building up the colors takes a lot longer.

Update schedule may be a bit sketchy for the next few weeks, as I’ll be busy getting ready for Anime Mid-Atlantic.

In which my scanner hates purple almost as much as it hates green.

Chapter 4 page 41 is up. More painting issues with this one. I’ve been in some kind of horrible art funk lately… which is bad when I’m supposed to be preparing for an Artists Alley table. I’m working on it, though.

The fey girl’s skintone came out more like I’d originally intended in this one… it’s actually the same base color as Yuki’s, but shaded in purples, which wouldn’t've worked in the photoshop coloring method I was using.

oh well. Sorry about all the delays lately… next page will be up on Tuesday or late Monday, as usual.

Chapter 4 page 40 is up. The paints were giving me an awful time on this one… eventually I just had to give up and declare it ‘finished.’ For now, anyway.

TWC vote incentive is the project I mentioned in the last update post – a Shades of Veil ad for the Anime Mid-Atlantic program book. The picture is a small piece of the Two of Swords card for Sen’s Webcomic Tarot project (which I’ll be redoing in color for the actual card). It features a character who’ll be showing up in the next chapter…

And on that note, yes, I’ll be running an Artist Alley table at Anime Mid-Atlantic in June, along with Technoangel Studios. Megami Jadeheart will be running her own table, too. So if you’re going to the con, be sure to stop by and say hello!

Sorry about the delay in getting the next page up. It’s nearly finished, I’ve just been sidetracked with other things lately… and this page has lots of dumb fiddly annoying details that make me not want to go back to working on it ((most of which are going to end up either too small to see in the web-resized version or covered up by speech balloons anyway, sigh)). And here I’d actually been ahead on comic work for a little while…

Anyway, the page should be up soon, though I’ve got another project with a hard deadline of Saturday to finish, too. Just need a little time to get things back into gear.
